Is It Worth Spending More On Solid Wood Furniture?

Is It Worth Spending More On Solid Wood Furniture?

One dilemma that many people go through when choosing new furniture is if it’s really worth spending more on a certain type. Should you go for a much cheaper version such as mass produced flat pack or imitation wood or should you invest more of your money in solid wood furniture instead? Of course which you go for will depend on a number of different things. We teamed up with Chelmsford based Priest Brothers to find out a little bit more and to take a look at just why so many are options for better quality which will last a lifetime over cheap, poorly manufactured flat-pack furniture.

Some people don’t like change in their lives. They are more than happy to stick with what they like and know best, and the thought of having to go through the effort of replacing items of furniture every few years doesn’t appeal at all. On the other hand there are also people who love change. They are quite happy to get rid of their existing furniture and replace it entirely every few years regardless of the upheaval it causes. Then there are those who will perhaps want to invest more in what they class as the important items such as a bed or a dining table and chairs, so will go for better quality items in these areas. It really all depends on individual circumstances.

Of course items of furniture manufactured in a more traditional way with properly constructed joints will stand the test of time much better than a cheaper version designed for the flat pack market. And there’s no denying, solid wood furniture will certainly look better, even with constant use compared to the imitation variety which will show signs of wear and tear after a much shorter period. Real wood also displays a pleasing random grain which cannot be replicated no matter how hard the manufacturers of the imitation variety try.

So, in terms of durability, appearance and long term value for money, there really is no comparison between the two and the real wood variety of furniture will win every time.
